Brook Village Grocery is a community-centric general store in rural Cape Breton/Unama’ki, Nova Scotia, with a long history and old-fashioned charm. We carry a bit of everything with a focus on locally made products.
We offer fresh produce, baguettes, bagels, and pretzels. We are known for our cheese, and we carry a selection of bulk spices, nuts, seeds, candy, and more, which you can bring your own containers to fill. Our cheese is wrapped in wax paper and our meat is also wrapped in paper.
Here you’ll also find a Down East refill station where you can refill your own containers with laundry soap, dish soap, and hand + body wash. You can either bring your own reusable containers from home or bring your previously purchased Down East bottles. However, unlike our bulk foods, we measure and charge the Down East products by litre, so the containers you bring must indicate the volume the container holds, whereas you can bring any clean container for our bulk foods.
Currently, we realistically can’t avoid plastic completely, but we are committed to doing our best! For example, none of our takeout packaging is plastic. We also no longer sell bottles of water, but we’ll refill your personal reusable water bottle with the finest, freshest, most thirst quenching Brook Village mountain spring water, for free!
