ShareWares is a citywide borrowing platform to supply, sanitize, and track reusable cups and takeout containers for Vancouver businesses.

Our goal is to help solve the world’s excessive single-use waste problem. We do this by making reusable packaging borrowing services convenient and accessible so that borrowing becomes the default choice for all packaging selection. With the help of our user-friendly web app, you can easily find locations to borrow and return reusable containers across Vancouver.

How borrowing with ShareWares works

1. Visit one of our partner cafés or restaurants in Vancouver and ask for reusable containers.
2. At the point of sale, you’ll pay a small deposit (eg. $1.50 for a cup + lid set) to borrow the reusable cup or takeout container.
3. Savour your favourite food or beverage!

How to return your ShareWares containers

1. When you’re finished, use your phone to scan the QR code on your reusable containers (You’ll need to create an account with just an email address and password on your first return).
2. Then scan the return bin’s QR code and drop everything in the bin.

• Alternative return options include returning your containers to a depot (see our app to find a depot near you) or to arrange a home pick-up from our zero-waste grocer partners Jarr, WiseFill, and Livlite.

How you get your ShareWares deposit refunded

1. Once you’ve dropped off your containers, we’ll pick them up.
2. We’ll then wash, inspect, and scan the containers.
3. Then we’ll refund you your deposit.
4. These freshly cleaned containers will then be redelivered to your favourite cafés and restaurants to be enjoyed again…and again…and again.
